In England, one of the earliest parts to be inhabited after the conclusion of the last ice age was Devon. Mesolithic hunter gatherers from approximately six thousand BC supposedly settled Dartmoor. Devon was governed by the Romans for two and a half centuries. In later times, the region turned into a frontier between Anglo Saxon Wessex and Brythonic Dumnoia, and it was absorbed largely into Wessex by the mid ninth century.

Historically, Devon has been the seat of a whole lot of civil unrest in England such as the Norman Conquest, War of the Roses, Perkin Warbeck’s Rising in 1497, The Prayer Book rebellon of 1549 and the English Civil war, to name a few. William of Orange’s arrival at Brixham in sixteen hundred and eighty eight started the Glorious Revolution.

Devon is a producer of tin, copper and other metals from ancient times, its miners enjoyed a lot of independence through Devon’s Stannary Parliament from 12th century, the last recorded sitting of this parliament was in 1748.

Wiltshire, which has a nickname of ‘The gateway to the West’, is both beautiful and quite diverse. Wiltshire has almost 430 thousand residents, and is considered an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it’s the right place to relax no matter the season. You may admire the prettiness of the gardens, or go for a stroll on the White Horse Trail where you may observe the eight white horses which are carved into the hills wander the towpath of the Avon Canal and Kennet, or have a relaxed meander through the market towns and get an actual taste of living in the countryside.
